      <description>SHOW RECORDING April 9th 2009

Tippy Canoe
http://www.myspace.com/tippycanoe
8pm
LIVE PERFORMANCE
Originally from Baltimore as well as now based in sunny Oakland, songbird as well as solo uke-slinger, Tippy Canoe (Michele Kappel), made the switch from a 5-piece drum kit with the garage-pop princesses The Kirby Grips (Sympathy For The Record Industry), to a 4-stringed ukulele in 2003. Since then she’s been on a mission with her band the Paddlemen to take sincere uplift in a severely down-slanted era by spreading her hook-laden pop-meets-roots music.

Brad Brooks
8:40pm
http://www.brad-brooks.com/
Originally from sun baked Tucson, Arizona, Bay Area pop alchemist, Brad Brooks has a big voice as well as he intends to utilize it on behalf of dastardly good. With tales of love on his sleeve, ex-stripper librarians as well as manic tourists, his is an extraordinarily unique perspective on a city as well as its delightful debauchery. Cinematic, orchestrated, as well as moody, his elaborate west coast baroque sound, rocks, pops as well as breaks your heart in all of the right places. Either solo, or with his band, Brad’s 70’s piano driven style of psychedelic persuasion moves from constructed pop anthems, through Jacques Brel-esque satirical waltzes, to intimate guitar ballads.

In Reverent Fears new album, Stomacher, is a devastating as well as powerful show of the bands musical range; balanced between their loose-and-reckless moments of intensity as well as their more subtle as well as haunting sections with lounging melodies as well as guitar lines, the album is tightly structured, each song polished as well as refined. Their music embodies that rare marriage between the mind as well as the heart, without sacrificing the sheer power that has at all times been at the bands core.

LIVE PERFORMANCE
for me music is a way of resisting the tide that urges towards blind consumption not just of things but of ideas as well as lifestyles meant to imprison us in complacency. in creativity/creation we find the antidote to war, to genocide, to injustice, intolerance. we find ways to empathize with our enemies, as well as to gently criticize our lovers. on behalf of me it is how I explain to myself all that is unexplainable. it is my direct line to the divine.

If Quazar had sounded anything like Dame Satan, I might be translating dispatches from Zeti Reticuli right now. Ever heard music that makes you desperately endeavour to remember if you&#8217;d innocuously eaten a brownie earlier that could have been, ahem, herbally enhanced? Dame Satan&#8217;s music had that effect.
